December 6, 2023 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”
So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
And the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.”
Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised—
Judges 6 & 7
VULNERABLE
vulnerable: without adequate protection; extremely susceptible to physical or emotional harm
If you are to be of any value to the kingdom of God, you have to be willing to live through numerous times of being vulnerable. All of mankind is equally vulnerable in most instances of life. The difference between believers and non-believers is that non-believers actually think they are in control. We all have the power to make choices every day, but do we really have any control over the outcome? We can plan and prepare, but one event, like the tsunami in Japan, and everything goes haywire.
However, regarding the kingdom of God, I am talking about another kind of vulnerability – being vulnerable to the will of God. Some Christians live in fear of what He will require of them, and rightfully so, because His will for us in ministry and battle is for us to be stripped of all human resources.
The LORD said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.”
Three hundred men left too bad, but he started with 32,000. In the natural, even the full army would not have been sufficient, and now God wants Gideon and 300 men to go against Midian. Yes. And how many were they to fight against again?
The Midianites, the Amalekites, and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.
Can that be right?
It doesn’t matter what, who, or how many come against us. In fact, the more impossible the situation is the better He likes it! What better way to show His great love for us than to come to our rescue time and time again? He can even cause the enemy to destroy itself.
When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the LORD caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords.
The next time you’re feeling vulnerable pray and watch expectantly for God’s intervention. And if you’re feeling a little shaky remember Gideon. He asked the Lord for two signs. God knew he needed a little extra encouragement, so He told Gideon to take his servant and sneak into the enemies’ camp and listen to what they were saying.
Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.”
His friend responded, “This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands."
God used the enemy to encourage Gideon and prophecy Israel’s good fortune! God does things in such unique and surprising ways. Don’t miss out! - LG
